Oral Exams Information
Introduction:
Following success on the EEG or EP written exam, candidates are eligible to move on to Part II of the ABRET Exam process, the Oral/Practical Exam.
The EEG Exam consists of three sections:
- Measurement and Application
Candidates must measure and set up a mannequin within a one hour time period - Recording Concepts
Candidates evaluate a series of patterns and respond to questions - Record Review
Candidates bring two abnormal records to review with examiners

The EP Exam consists of three sections
- EVOKED POTENTIAL APPLICATION AND IDENTIFICATION

Instructions:
- Candidates must start the oral exam process within two years of passing the EEG or EP written exam.
- Obtain an Oral Exam Application on this site, or by contacting the ABRET Executive Office.
- Select the test site. The exam is offered approximately four times each year, and moves around to different regions of the country.
- Apply early. Exam slots often fill prior to the deadline. Candidates are not eligible to apply until they have received their Part I exam results.
- Carefully read the Exam Outlines.
- Candidates will receive a confirmation following acceptance of their application.
- Six to eight weeks prior to the exam, candidates will receive their exam schedule.
- Candidates must make their own travel and hotel arrangements. ABRET does not typically provide transportation to or from the exam site.
- Candidates must complete the oral/practical exam within five years of passing the written exam.
Additional Information for EEG and EP Oral/Practical Exams:
- Any questions should be directed to the ABRET Executive Office, and not to the Exam Host.
- Candidates will receive their results by mail within two weeks of the exam.
- Candidates must report any address or name changes to the ABRET Executive Office.
Refund Policy:
- Candidates requesting to be transferred to another exam site more than six weeks prior to the original test date must pay a $30 transfer fee before the new exam site can be confirmed.
- Candidates requesting to be transferred to another exam site less than six weeks prior to the original test date must pay a $100 transfer fee before the new exam site can be confirmed.
- A 75% refund may be requested if a cancellation is received more than six weeks before the test date.
- No refunds are given within six weeks of the exam.
- Candidates who do not show up at the exam as scheduled are not eligible for transfers nor refunds.
