Written Exams

Information on Written Examinations

Introduction:

The ABRET written examinations are administered by the Professional Testing Corporation (PTC, Inc.). Written examinations are computer based and conducted at LaserGrade Testing Centers. Each examination is offered over a two week testing period. Candidates may schedule their examination within that two week testing window.

Please note there is no refund or transfers available for the written examinations once the application has been filed.

  • Download a Candidate Handbook from the Professional Testing Corporation
  • Read the Handbook thoroughly
  • Follow instructions for completing the application and submitting other required documentation. The application will download with the Handbook

Credentialing for EEG Technologists is a two-step process. EEG candidates must successfully complete the written exam first.

Registration Examination for Evoked Potential Technologists

Credentialing for EP Technologists is a two-step process. EP candidates must successfully complete the written exam first.

Certification for Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring Technologists

Certification requires only a written exam.

Certification for Long Term Monitoring Technologists

Certification requires only a written exam.

Additional Information for EEG, EP, CNIM and CLTM Written Exams

Once your application has been received and processed, and your eligibility verified, you will be sent a postcard from PTC confirming receipt.

Candidates will receive an eligibility notice for the written exam approximately 6 weeks prior to the testing date. This will indicate where to call to schedule your examination. If the card is not received at least three weeks prior to the exam, contact PTC, Inc. by phone at 212-356-0660.

Candidates will receive their results by mail within six weeks of the close of the testing period.

Candidates must report any address or name changes to the ABRET Executive Office.
